June 13, 2009, the H1N1 influenza Seminar was held at the Center of Interdisciplinary Cciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch, co-organized by Shanghai Pasteur Health Research Foundation. The seminar was presided by Professor Sun Bing, Director of Institute Pasteur of Shanghai. The director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health, Mr Wu Peixin; the vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch, Mr Zhu Zhiyuan and the vice president of Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Mr Zhang Xu attended the meeting.
Mr Shu Yuelong, director of the National Influenza Center of CDC; Mr Wu Fan, director of Shanghai CDC; Mr Liu Jinhua, professor of China Agricultural University; Mr He Yungang, researcher of CAS - PMG Partner Institute for Computational Biology and Mr Paul Zhou, professor of Institute Pasteur of Shanghai have given some theme lectures. The meeting analyzed the the situation of H1N1 influenza and methodes of prevention and control. The participant considered that we should be concerned about the public health services from the point of view of scientific research and pay more attention to estabilsh a public technology platform, in order to provide effective support to scientific prevention and control.
At meeting, experts from Institute Pasteur of Shanghai showed some new progress of their research: professor Paul Zhou introduced the progress in the virus-like particles vaccine of influenza virus, made by his research team; assistant researcher, Ms Wang Wei introduced the rapid diagnosis method of H1N1 influenza and professor Sun Bing introduced the new discovery in the research on pathogenic mechanism of influenza virus. After the meeting, all the experts discussed about the work of prevention and control for Expo 2010, the mutation of influenza viruses and the evolution of the situation. It was agreed that the prevention and control of influenza is a long-term process, a long-term project should be made and an information platform and a system of report should be established.
